    The Soldier in the back row third from the right, looks like my grandfather. George Lowther Weir...He was in the home guard and was from Dinnington...Not sure but might be him?..

    Interesting Peter - did your grandfather work at Prestwick? I understand there was a Prestwick colliery Home Guard, Dinnington Home Guard (see http://www.ccoynblhomeguard.co.uk/DinningtonHG.html ) and Ponteland Home Guard. I think those working at the "Robert" pit will have been members of Dinnington HG?

    Thanks for the info, i dont really know anything about his time in the homeguard. he was in with Les Platten, but not much else is know..no pictures or anything. he was from Dinnington, but not sure what collierys he worked in..i will check with my father he will know the pits
